Ongoing Narrative / Commentary

Wild action to say the least on a much cooler than expected CPI print this morning.  /ES futures rallied so far as to take out the recent swing high from December 1 before cooling of a bit.

All of this is coming on the heels of value that was overlapping and relatively unchanged for five RTH sessions.  This to me, points to at least some sort of bullish hold today at least higher than that area.

As the gap is a true gap , gap rules will be in play for today’s session.

Scenarios

  • As with any large true gap, potential is there for the early fade.  Shorting the low of the first one minute bar can be effective.  If the opening drive is higher, then a cross back down through the open can be a short trigger.  Internals won’t help that much on these huge gaps as they will read very bullish regardless of price action due to most of them being calculated from the prior day’s close.
  • Any failure to gap fill or partial, small fill should be taken as bullish.  A retest of the open after any initial weakness is a potential buy signal.

Iceberg Tick

A game changer if you use the TICK as a market internal. Paints time spent above zero in green and time below in red. Traders who know how to use the TICK know that this is what really matters in terms of sustaining intraday direction, not how high or low the extremes are.
